how to: quick and easy room makeover

Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore rearranging furniture in the movie Because I Said So

Tired of a space in your home? Surprising there are some easy fixes that can make your space look completely different with out a ton of work and money. Here are three quick and easy tips to change a space on the fly.

1. Rearrange the furniture. simple and fast, sometimes just changing where the bed is in the room, or the
arrangement of furniture in the living room and completely change how a room looks; how big the space
feels, and how much natural light comes in.

2. Change up the small decor- an easy fix to spice up a space, and change the way it feels- change up
your "accessories". moving books from the bookshelf to a neat stack on the coffee table, putting a tray
with candles on the ottoman, changing out the artwork on the wall etc. this tip is easy and endless in the
ways you can change things. It can be something as simple as changing out the decorative pillows on a
sofa or bed, but it can give a completely different feel to the space.

3. Change up the paint- painting the room and different color can have a huge impact on the space. Some
shades can make a space feel larger and calmer than others. If you don't have the time, paint one wall- an
accent wall it will draw your attention to that wall and change the dynamic of the space.

See how different the living room is after they changed the furniture the TV was on to the book shelf and put the table and chairs in front of the bay window.
Adding new accessories such as rain boots under a table or new candlesticks can change the look of a space.

product highlight: Serena & Lily- Pillows

If you don't know who/what  Serena & Lily is- It's a home catalog/internet company that started selling nursery bedding and decor, but now sells anything from pillows to frames to furniture. Enough about the company I could talk about it all day, what I want to focus on is their pillows- they have awesome decorative pillows with fresh vibrant textiles that would brighten, accent and liven up a space. I should just let the pictures do the talking. just go to their site and look around- I know you won't be disappointed

mirror, mirror

Mirrors are a great statement piece for a space. Whether they are on a table, leaning against the wall, above a piece of furniture or hanging with other pieces of art or photographs they can give a space that certain punch to go from okay to fabulous. The good thing about mirrors is that there are so many styles, shapes, materials that it can fit and work with any type or style of space.  Here are some of my favorite examples, if you can't tell I tend to like them above a side table.

You sign up with them and as you read and "flip" through their pages if you like something click on it and LONNY will not only save the product in your file but tell you specific information about that product.
After going through the May/June Issue I am amazed, Since my old favorite magazine Domino stopped publication I have been searching for something as great as it and I might have found it with LONNY. Started by designer Michelle Adams and photographer Patrick Cline it highlights and showcases all kinds of design. Please go check it out and decide for yourself but I'm hooked!

bunk bed's make me want to be a kid again

I have a fascination with space saving beds. I'm talking about different, creative bunk beds, beds built into the wall, modern murphy beds etc. Maybe one day I've a house to put some of these ideas in, or a client but until then this will have to do.
I think this is my favorite- it might be the most sophisticated bunk bed's I have ever seen

Bed's on top- Closet's on bottom

the curtain gives it the ability to blend into the wall almost seamlessly.

I love the darker ladders and small touches of color.

this is great- its a trundle bed that come out in the living room and is hidden behind some fake cabinet doors in the kitchen- when it's closed it looks like a built-in.

seating for a sun room in the day and by night: two twin beds for family that comes to visit.

double size bunk bed's-this would be great in a small apartment

daybed under the stairs.... it would be a stylish step up from Harry Potter's cupboard under the stairs.

This would be great for a play room or basement- it add's sleeping space and storage underneath without taking up the entire room.

This is a great space saver - the desks on both sides is perfect for a twins room.

The rope and exposed wood adds a nice detail- I just wonder if it's comfortable.

I love the how the stairs are built in

the design of a watermelon margarita

well it's the beginning of June, which means its the beginning of summer! in honor of that I thought I would share this great recipe for watermelon margaritas my mom and I came up with the other day.

ingredients:
- 1/2 lime ( or lime juice)
- 1 cup of tequila - or as much as needed
- chopped watermelon (as much as needed)
- 1 package of crystal light margarita mix
- equal

directions:
take the chopped watermelon and put in the food processor, or if you don't have a food processor a blender will be fine. You want the watermelon as liquid as you can get. I didn't strain the watermelon after putting it through the food processor, but it would take out the small pieces that are left.

Next make the crystal light, but only put half the water you are suppose to into the pitcher to give it a stronger taste. Add the watermelon to the crystal light then take the half lime and squeeze it into the pitcher. Add the tequila; we used about a cup maybe a little bit more and stir. You can add equal to make it a little bit sweeter but use sparingly.

We served it over crushed ice- hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

things i love

I thought I would share some of my favorite things in design whether that's different rooms or just products; so here we go!

I have this strange obsession with Lucite chairs, I love them, but honestly I have no idea why

have extra large sliding doors is a great idea for the home, especially since it doubles as a door and as wall art

exposed brick will always have a special place in my heart, I love the old industrial look

the combination of navy and gold, enough said

There is something about this kitchen that fascinates me, I love the table height seating  around the sink and the  display space above the cabinets is a great space saver!

I would love to shake the hand of whoever thought of this- it's genius, however  it might seem strange to be in my house since I hate bike riding

I love the look of bold piping on upholstered chairs, it adds an extra pop to the room with out screaming it.

I had originally saved this when I came across it on pinterest because I thought it was something my sister-in-law would love but I really like this bedroom- the fabric headboard is great with the very neutral room.

I love this room- it's like a big girl barbie room

I LOVE CHEVRON!!!
This is my absolute favorite kitchen space. I love the combination of black and white it's so classic yet a very different twist to it- my kitchen will look like this someday.

chevron back splash..... do I need to say anything else?
